Guess which nickname was mine.
On the Thursday of my stay in Germany I headed to Dusseldorf to
meet up with Ryan and Jean-Yves whom I had met previously in Berlin and had
stayed in contact with, to catch-up and go out and explore in Dusseldorf for the
day. I awoke semi-early (some things never change) and after a hearty breakfast
made my way to the tram station to make the 25 minute trip to Dussseldorf
Hauptbahnhopf where I was meeting Ryan.

The tram ride went
smoothly and just after 11 I arrived at the Hautbahnhopf ready to see the guys and go
out and explore. We first went back to their apartment as we were waiting for
Jean-Yves friend Lara as she was going to come with us and show/drive us
around.
We started our exploring in the modern, more industrialised
district. If you are a fan of modern architecture, then this is your kind of
place. Buildings clad completely in chrome and reflective metals in weird
rolling shapes, buildings with figurines clambering all over them, strangely
angled buildings and ultra-modernistic architecture was everywhere as we
wandered down along the river. After wandering for a while
we happened upon and curry-wurst shop and the decision was made that we would stop for lunch before continuing on our city-tour.
The plan
was to make our way to the top of the Television tower so that we could take in
the entire city and beyond. | Figurines..yeh I'm not sure either. |
The view did not disappoint, and as it was a clear day we
could see for miles taking in both Neuss and Koln as well as other outlying
cities. We took plenty of photos whilst feeling slightly sick leaning to
look out of the angled window to the ground (vertigo is not something I
struggle with but on this occasion…*giggles*) and then made our way back to the
ground level where we parted ways with Lara (she had to go home and help her
mother for a while), after which Ryan, Jean-Yves and myself kept walking. We
wandered towards down along the River bank, passing some young Germans playing
a weird drinking-game (we stopped to learn by observation) and then towards the
centre of town to find the Abercrombie and Fitch mega store (Lara told the boys
to show me the shirt-less male models… *sighs*) and then to find Lara a
birthday present.
After our little shopping experience we headed straight back
to the Alstadt to find a good pub to laze away the rest of the afternoon in,
and once again the Irish pub came through with some fine nachos and beer.

After a few drinks we made our way back to the
boys apartment to hang out; on the way talking music. We ended up agreeing to
write and record vocals to some of Jean-Yves music that he had created and so
spent the next few hours (apart from a quick dinner/Yiros break) writing and
recording music. I have possibly done more worthwhile music whilst overseas
than I did back in Adelaide in the lead-up to my departure and that is a very
good thing! The day ended as we watched the first part of “In Bruges”, as that
was my next destination and apparently I “had to watch it before I arrived”,
after which I caught the late train home, standing at the station opposite the
prostitutes on the street feeling rather awkward as a lone female. However I
arrived safe and sound just after 11 and decided that the next day would once
again be a rest day. My stamina just isn’t as good as it used to be (that and
the sunny weather and unevenly cobbled streets wreak havoc on your body).
Whilst this blog about Batman’s day out has largely
finished, I still have a few things to write about in the “My time with the
Geislers” Series, so stay tuned for part 5: Welcome to the weekend.
Fun times ahead!
Until next time,
Love Love!
